Some Tracks - What I'm Listening To
Been feeling a bit sporadic lately. Suppose it’s a good thing than wanting a sense of groundedness all the time–who knows what I’m saying. So many tracks to listen to each day, and I thought I’d share a few for you to digest in any capacity you wish.
I realize not everyone wants a slew of record recommendations all the time since there’s not enough time to properly take in a record. We’re all busy nowadays! So, take these tracks as you wish. At the very least, I hope you’re looking for some tunes to add to your playlist or usual listening ritual.
Nick Drake - Rider on the Wheel
Genre - Folk
Release Date - 1979
Listen Here
Nick Drake is probably my favorite singer-songwriter–yes, I know that sounds hyperbolic. Who cares. Lately, I’ve been listening to tracks that came out after Nick Drake’s death in 1974, and Rider on the Wheel is one of the best. Very tender tune. Can’t recommend him enough.
Injury Reserve - Bye Storm, By Storm
Genre - Hip Hop/Rap
Release Date - 2023
Listen Here
Injury Reserve recently announced there’d be no new music from the group going forward, and that the remaining members, Ritchie and Corey, would continue to produce music under the name By Storm. I’m excited the pair is going to move forward, and Bye Storm, By Storm is a heartbreaking yet beautiful transition–please watch the video. RIP Stepa J. Groggs.
Street Sects - And I Grew into Ribbons
Genre - Industrial Punk
Release Date - 2016
Listen Here
A buddy of mine recommended the record this track is on—End Position—and boy is it chaotic. Reminds me of Daughters a bit and has that electronic production over industrial punk tunes that makes it so interesting. Definitely check it out if that’s your jam.
Dominic Fike - How Much is Weed?
Genre - Alternative Hip Hop
Release Date - 2023
Listen Here
Been really digging the latest from Dominic Fike, Sunburn, and this track is probably my favorite off of it. As a whole, the record is endearing with top-notch production, and it’s been a part of my usual rotation since its release a few weeks back. I’m stoked to see what he does next.
Mission Of Burma - That’s When I Reach For My Revolver
Genre - Post-Punk
Release Date - 1981
Listen Here
Nothing’s better than Post-Punk, and I don’t know how I slept on this track for so long. Admittedly, I’m not too familiar with Mission of Burma’s catalog, but I’ll make sure to familiarize myself this week. Regardless, this track rocks, so give it a rip.
